Equipment
Life in the FRS is far from ordinary, and because we could be called out to all kinds of situations we have to ensure we've got the right equipment for the job. Here are just some of the tools you might have to use:
Ladders
Every appliance carries a ladder that can reach 3 storeys high.
Hoses
Typically an appliance carries 2 drums of hosereels each 60 metres in length.
Pumps
Used to pump water through the hoses at high pressure to deal with the fire.
Pneumatic/Hydraulic Cutters
Used for cutting through difficult materials like car roofs.
The uniform we wear
There are various bits of kit that people in the FRS wear. Colours and designs depend on the FRS brigade you join. Uniforms are also available to meet modesty and religious requirements.
